Kia has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio in India with the launch of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, priced from INR 17.99 lakh. With this, it becomes the most affordable electric MPV in the country. The model is available in four variants: HTK Plus, HTX, ER HTX, and ER HTX Plus, with prices going up to INR 24.49 lakh.

The Carens Clavis EV comes with two battery choices—a 42kWh and a 51.4kWh pack. The smaller battery delivers an ARAI-certified range of 404 km, while the larger one offers a range of 490 km on a full charge.

The 42kWh model is equipped with a 135hp motor, and the 51.4kWh version gets a 171hp motor, both mounted on the front axle with a peak torque output of 255Nm, similar to the Hyundai Creta EV.

Kia claims that the larger battery variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. The EV also features four levels of regenerative braking via paddle shifters and a steering column-mounted drive selector for added driving convenience.

The Carens Clavis EV supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 39 minutes using a 100kW charger. For AC charging, Kia offers 7.4kW and 11kW home charger options. Using the 11kW charger, the 42kWh battery charges fully in 4 hours, while the 51.4kWh unit takes around 4 hours and 45 minutes. The EV is covered by an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty.

Inside, the Clavis EV shares its layout with the standard Carens MPV but adds a high-tech touch. The cabin features twin 12.3-inch panoramic screens combining the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. It also offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a touch-sensitive panel for HVAC and media controls, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, a wireless phone charger, and ventilated front seats.

The Carens Clavis EV also gets a powered driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, Boss Mode for enhanced rear passenger comfort, and one-touch electric tumble for the second-row seat. The EV also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging.

Kia has equipped the Carens Clavis EV with a robust set of safety and driver-assistance features. Highlights include ADAS Level 2, Blind View Monitor, and Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), ISOFIX mounts, rear parking sensors, and all-wheel disc brakes.

Although Kia already retails the premium EV6 and EV9 in India, the Carens Clavis EV is the brand’s first made-in-India mass-market electric vehicle.
